All parents want to know that their children are happy and safe at school. Newtown Primary School has a multi-pronged approach to this.
Through the Healthy Relationships Program, children are taught positive values such as respect, consideration, compassion, etc. Newtown Primary School teachers can create a safe and supportive environment for children by reinforcing the language of values and consistently role modelling these values.
Our Anti-Bullying and Harassment Policy offers care and concern for students who are bullied, counselling for the bully and monitoring of the child who has been bullied.
There are a series of follow-up actions that can occur to encourage a bully to desist. These include:
- Removal from play
- Removal from the yard
- Parents meeting
- Serious disciplinary measures
Newtown Primary School staff carefully note the playground or classroom interactions to detect any continuing patterns of bullying.
Each family is given their own copy of the Anti-Bullying and Harassment Policy (Safe Schools Policy) in an Information Pack at the start of each year or on arrival at the school.
